The Monkhide story
Herefordshire's beautiful countryside and abundance of fruit and flowers inspire everything we do. We feel privileged to live in such a wonderful place which has become home and the heart of our Monkhide brand.
Back in 1999, as two full time teachers, we would spend the holidays foraging along the hedgerows in the little hamlet of Monkhide in Herefordshire, to pick fresh ingredients for our much-loved hobby of wine making.
The first small batch of wine produced in our converted garage was supplied to a local farm shop. In 2002, we moved home so that we could expand our business, (and our family) but keeping Monkhide as our business name. Following a family tradition, we became beekeepers in 2012 and our traditional mead is now produced with honey from our Monkhide apiary.
Our pace and rhythm of life continues to be designed and inspired by the wonderful harvests of each season. Every glass celebrates the very best Herefordshire has to offer in fresh fruit and flowers. Each product is hand made from start to finish in our family winery, using our trusted fermentation techniques and specialist yeasts.
So, twenty-five years later, our attention to detail and our ethos of using fresh, natural ingredients has won us an ever-growing number of loyal followers.
